Towboat Maneuvering Simulator. Volume III. Theoretical Description.

Abstract

The Towboat Maneuvering Simulator is based on the integration in time of the differential equations which describe the motions of the towboat and barge string in three degrees of freedom, i.e., yaw, sway and surge. This volume of the simulator documentation provides a description of the basic equations of motion included in the simulator and the relationships used to determine external forces and moments due to a bow thruster and wind. These equations are completely general in nature and could be used, with the proper hydrodynamic coefficients, to describe the maneuvering of vessels other than towboats. (Author)
