Integrated Defense Occupational Stratification System.

Abstract

This report describes the development of a system that classifies both military and civilian personnel in the Department of Defense into a common occupational structure. It provides top level DoD management with the ability to understand and describe the occupational nature of the defense work force and may be used to: (1) Analyze the similarities and differences among the military Services' occupational content; (2) Facilitate DoD-wide work force management information reporting and analysis; and (3) Monitor the labor force implication of reductions or additions to force strengths. In addition, the impact on the labor force caused by the introduction of new technology into the force structure can be monitored. Prior knowledge of the types of occupations affected by planned manpower shifts could preclude shortages of employees trained in required occupations.
