EMP Hardening of Airborne Systems through Electro-Optical Techniques: Design Guidelines.

Abstract

This report examines the utilization of fiber optics technology as an alternative to system EMP hardening and provides design guidelines for airborne system applications. It also examines potential EMP vulnerabilities of the overall fiber optic data subsystems, defines and quantifies methods of protection against the EMP threat, and compares vulnerabilities with those of hard-wired data systems.
