Exploring New Concepts for Elucidating Processes Occurring in Pyrotechnic Flares and for Generating Aerosol Dispersions.

Abstract

Efforts leading to the development of successful techniques for mapping burning pyrotechnic flares are described. An experimental system capable of studying a variety of combustion processes under 'noisy' and 'smoky' conditions on a time scale appropriate for combusting flare candles is presented. Fundamental investigations designed to elucidate critical design parameters in Babington Nebulizers for application as high density aerosol generators are described. (Author)
