Spectral Studies of Ions in Perfluorocarbonsulfonate (Nafion) Ionomers.

Abstract

The infrared and far-infrared spectra of alkali, alkaline earth and transition metal ionomers of perfluorocarbonsulfonic acid (Nafion) polymers are reported. The cation motion features have been observed and the strength of the cation-site interactions determined. The effect of dehydration of the ionomers on cation-motion vibrations, cation-site bonding, and the nature of hydrogen bonding in the hydrated ionomers has been investigated. (Author)
