Chaff Radar Cross Section Studies and Calculations

Abstract

The objective of Contract F33615-C-1024 has been to analytically and experimentally investigate chaff scattering and the reduction of antenna-related radar cross section. This final report summarizes results obtained during the interim 1 January 1976 through 30 June 1977 on the chaff aspect of the effort. Included are summaries of (1) an investigation of scattering by a long wire excited by either a plane wave or by a nearby short dipole with sinusoidal current distribution and (2) an experimental study of small foam shapes very densely coated with chaff filaments.
