Assessment of Color-Measuring Instruments for Objective Textile Acceptability Judgement

Abstract

Three current color-measuring spectrophotometers (Diano Match-Scan, Hunter D54, Macbeth MS-2000) have been evaluated by Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute for NARADCOM. Each instrument was tested to assess its suitability for use in the objective judgment of textile shade acceptability. The program included studies of the accuracy and repeatability of color measurement, the precision of color difference measurement, the sensitivity of the instruments to various sample and measurement parameters, and the statistical evaluation of the distributions of the data obtained.
