Advanced Naval Vehicle Structural Loads Criteria and Structural Characteristics

Abstract

This paper describes a method of determining structural design loads which is based on, what are now, generally accepted, probabilistic principles. The basic concept is that each ANVCE vehicle should have a reasonable probability of being capable of withstanding the most severe load which it may be expected to encounter during its normal operating life. The 'Reasonable probability' has been defined here in terms of factors of safety on yield, ultimate and fatigue loads.
