Some Comments on the Endochronic Theory of Plasticity.

Abstract

Two endochronic theories of plasticity advanced by Valanis in 1971 and 1978 are discussed critically. It is concluded that the first of these theories, which does not involve a yield surface or a separation of strain into plastic and elastic components, cannot form an appropriate basis for the mechanics of metals. The second theory is a more conventional theory involving a yield surface with kinematic and isotropic hardening. However, there is no evidence that the particular laws employed by Valanis accord with experiment. (Author)
