A Comparison of Numerical Methods for Identification and Optimization Problems Involving Control Systems with Delays.

Abstract

This report presents numerical results for two approximation techniques for functional differential control systems. One technique is based on an averaging scheme, the other on spline approximations. A number of examples are considered and the techniques are applied to parameter estimation problems and optimal control problems where the systems are given by differential equations with hereditary terms.
