Study of Laser Created Metal Vapor Plasmas.

Abstract

During the past year the 'Laser Ablation and Selective Excitation Spectroscopy' facility has been extended to provide a dual wavelength excitation and monitoring capability. Work on an experiment, that is directed at making the first direct spatially and temporally resolved measurements of the ion to neutral ground state population ratio in a laser ablation plasma, has recently been commenced. The preliminary results attained to date have been encouraging.
