Warranty-Guarantee Application Guidelines for Air Force Ground Electronic Equipment.

Abstract

This report presents guidelines for developing and applying warranty-guarantee plans in the acquisition of ground electronic equipment. The plans include warranty at three different maintenance levels, four types of guarantees and possible combinations thereof. Criteria for selecting candidate equipments are provided and the information needed to develop appropriate terms and conditions is also presented. A life-cycle-cost model for use in evaluating the economics of warranty-guarantee versus organic maintenance is also included. The report concludes that, even with characteristics significantly different from avionics equipment, ground electronic equipments are amenable to the use of warranty-guarantee plans. Careful analysis and tailoring of the plans are required to ensure that R&M improvements and cost reductions are achieved. (Author)
