Finite State Models of Manned Systems: Validation, Simplification, and Extension.

Abstract

Three basic research objectives were pursued. An assessment of the robustness and validity of previously developed discrete control models resulted in a comprehensive examination of the conceptual and methodological issues associated with validity. This work is included in the report. Work on computer assisted discrete control analysis focused primarily on the problems associated with representing continuous data in a form suitable for use by existing analysis routines. Additional work on modelling discrete control tasks, including modelling coordination in small trams was also performed and resulted in two papers which are included as appendices to the report.
