Assessment of Pr3+:KY3F10 as a Blue-Green Laser

Abstract

The reported energy levels of praseodymium and europium in the host material KY3F10 have been analyzed. Using the x-ray data, lattice sums have been done, and odd crystal-field parameters have been calculated. Using these results, the transition probabilities for both magnetic and electric dipoles have been calculated for the rare earth ions. Discussions are given of the application of the results to a blue-green laser using praseodymium.
