Evaluation of Geothermal Potential of Range Bravo 17 and the Shoal Site, Naval Air Station, Fallon.

Abstract

As part of the task of evaluating the geothermal potential of naval installations throughout the world, Range Bravo 17 and the Shoal Site, both located at the Naval Air Station, Fallon, Nev., were evaluated. An aeromagnetic survey was conducted; seismic refraction studies and extensive hydrologic studies were made; thermal gradient and heat flow data were taken; and water chemistry and mercury geochemistry analyses were made. The results of the study show that the geothermal potential of the Shoal area and Range Bravo 17 is low. It was concluded that further exploration of these sites is not warranted at this time.
