Elasticity Theory of Composites.

Abstract

Variational methods for estimating overall properties of composites are reviewed. Bounds that allow for general two-point correlations are emphasized and new explicit formulae are given for a two-component composite. A new general third-order bound is also given. Finally a variational treatment of wave propagation problems for random composites is presented, of which the preceding static formulation is a limiting case. (Author)
