Energetic Azido Compounds

Abstract

A program was started on the synthesis and characterization of energetic azido compounds as potential ingredients for advanced propellant and explosive systems. Initially, a series of mono-azidoalkanes and diazidoalkanes were prepared to compare the molecular structure of these compounds with their impact sensitivity. All of the mono-azidoalkanes were insensitive to impact. The di-azidoalkanes gave varying results, depending on the structure.
