Linear Stability of Self Similar Flow. 7. The Primakoff Blast Wave and Its Generalizations.

Abstract

The linear stability of those Sedov blast wave similarity solutions for which the flow is homologous behind the shock, of which the best-know example is the Primakoff point blast model, along with that of their two-dimensional counterparts, is proved analytically. This conclusion in the three-dimensional case applies to all perturbations, and in the two-dimensional case to flutelike (kz = 0) modes. Implications for supernova remnant evolution are discussed.
