AN/SSQ-57A Sonobuoy Modifications for Reusable Operation,

Abstract

Several modifications have been made to the AN/SSQ-57A Sonobuoy for reusable operation from surface craft. Internal rechargeable batteries and a hydrophone cable reel allow the retrieval and reuse of the sonobuoy without the normal refurbishing procedures. The modifications can be accomplished with hand tools and off-the-shelf components. None of the modifications prevents the sonobuoys from being refurbished to standard air launch status.
