Ionospheric Profiles for Predicting Nighttime VLF/LF Propagation, Determination of an Effective (Exponential) Model for Use in Design and Deployment of Resources for Communication and Navigation

Abstract

The regression analysis of ionospheric profiles from the literature fails to show the high ionospheric variability that is observed in the propagation measurements. Neither does it show the rapid transition in altitude between high and middle latitudes. The measured propagation data are more directly related to the MEECN and Omega system requirements for predicting vlf and lf field strengths. Profiles are suggested on the basis of the analysis of these data.
