Melt Purification via Filtration.

Abstract

Background on the mechanisms and kinetics of filtration is discussed and the model proposed by Drexel is elaborated. An apparatus for depth filtration of molten aluminium has been developed and the results of the experiments to date are analyzed. The apparatus under construction for steel filtration is described and the envisaged method of experimentation is discussed. Reference is made to proposed future work on a low temperature model system and to further studies of aluminium filtration. (Author)
