The Spectral Characteristics of Metal Film Beam Splitters

Abstract

The spectral and polarisation characteristics of metallic beam splitters and mirrors made of single films of aluminum, silver, rhodium or nichrome on glass are described. Normal incidence transmission data of each thickness of metal film used in the beam splitter calculations is included for use when measuring or monitoring the deposition of the thin films. The presentation is mostly graphical and intended for the user and maker of simple metal beam splitters.
