An Analytical Model of Kinetic Energy Projectile/Fragment Penetration

Abstract

The basis for an analytic model of kinetic energy projectile (fragment) penetration is described. It is based on an expression for the resistive force encountered by a projectile during penetration. The predictive capability of the model is compared to that of the Thor equation for residual velocity. Some conclusions are drawn concerning the penetration process. A tabulation of computer programs and sample output are included. (Author)
