Intelligent Tracking Techniques

Abstract

This is the Fourth quarterly Report under a contract to investigate the design, test, and implementation of a set of algorithms to perform intelligent tracking and intelligent target homing on FLIR and TV imagery. The intelligent tracker will monitor the entire field of view, detect and classify targets, perform multiple target tracking and predict changes in target signature prior to the target's entry into an obscuration. The intelligent tracking and homing system will also perform target prioritization and critical aimpoint selection. A system concept was developed for intelligent homing and aimpoint selection. The problem was divided into long range homing and aimpoint selection. Sets of 875-line FLIR imagery were extracted from the NV&EOL data base and examples were presented for both categories. The subjects of close-in homing and aimpoint selection were further divided into close-in segmentation, close-in target tracking, and tracking during the transition from long range to close-in.
