Optical Aerosol Spectrometers Factors Affecting Optical Extinction Predictions.

Abstract

Optical aerosol counters are used to measure aerosol spectra and thence to calculate the aerosol contribution of optical extinction. This report contains the results of field experiments and laboratory investigations of the performance of the NPS spectrometers. Areas of concern in the use of these spectrometers and the subsequent calculations are identified and discussed. In general the spectrometer performance is adequate for use in predicting the performance of overocean optical systems. (Author)
