Automated X-Ray Orientation for Quartz Crystal Resonators.

Abstract

The major objective of this program is to develop an automated X-ray orientation system which is capable of measuring the angles of cut of doubly rotated cuts of quartz (SC cut) to seconds of arc on a production basis. Precise measurement of Laue spots is used in conjunction with laser crystal surface measurements to determine the angle of cut. The entire procedure is under control of a dedicated mini-computer. A second objective is to angle correct the measured crystals. Several techniques are being studied to replace the conventional laboratory type correction procedure. (Author)
