Fault Tolerant Computer Network Study

Abstract

This interim report documents some baseline parameters and considerations for a fault tolerant avionics system. Issues addressed include reliability, computational requirements, fault tolerant techniques, cost effectiveness, error types, computer networks, and analysis techniques. Candidate life-cycle cost models are reviewed for applicability in evaluating fault tolerant architectures, and a study plan for assessment of the cost/ effectiveness of fault tolerant techniques is presented.
