An Ion-Selective Electrode for the Determination of Phencyclidine (PCP).

Abstract

An ion-selective electrode responsive to the protonated form of phencyclidine (PCP+) is described. This electrode is based on incorporating PCP+ as its dinonylnaphthalenesulfonate in a plasticized poly(vinylchloride) membrane. The electrode has very good selectivity with respect to inorganic and small organic cations. The detection limit is about 10 to the -5.1 power M. In addition to application for direct potentiometric analysis of PCP+, successful use as an indicator electrode in potentiometric titration of PCP+ as concentrations as low as .0001 M is described.
