Measurement and Analysis of L- and X-Band Mine Cross Sections.

Abstract

The cross sections of several anti-tank mines including the Soviet TM-46 and East German PM-60 were measured at 1.2 and 1.65 GHz. In free space the median cross sections of these mines were about -13 and -20 dBsm, respectively. Calculations were made to determine the detectability of the anti-tank mines at L-band, and it was found that the mines do not increase the background reflectivity sufficiently to permit detection in clutter backgrounds typical of Eastern Europe.
