National Dam Inspection Program. Y.M.C.A. Dam (NDS-ID Number PA-873 DER-ID Number 13-100), Delaware River Basin, Drakes Creek, Carbon County, Pennsylvania. Pleasant Valley West Property Owners Association. Phase I Inspection Report.

Abstract

YMCA Dam is an earthfill dam, 42 feet high and 608 feet long. The crest width is 9 feet. The upstream slope is 2.5H:1V and grass covered. The downstream slope was measured to be 2H:1V and grass covered. The reservoir drain consists of a 24 inch corrugated metal pipe with a concrete endwall located 270 feet from the left abutment. The spillway consists of a 42 foot long ogee section, 150 feet from the left abutment. The inspection and review of data of the YMCA Dam did not reveal any problems which require emergency action. The dam appears to be in fair condition. The seepage which was noted along the toe of dam should be monitored and evaluated by a professional engineer knowledgeable in earth dams. The evaluation should be implemented immediately. The spillway and reservoir are capable of controlling approximately 81% of the PMF. Based on criteria established by the Corps of Engineers, the spillway is termed adequate.
