Leadtime Variability In Inventory Requirement Projections.

Abstract

The Air Force has experienced inventory support problems apparently because of Leadtime Variability. This study was to find out whether Leadtime Variability had a significant influence on safety stocks. The researcher fitted different distributions to Leadtime data of High-Intensity items and found the data to fit the laplace distribution. Previous work provide an optimization model for the distribution. Use of this model can raise the average service level significantly. Cost of conversion for AFLC is estimated at a onetime expense of $150 million and annual operating cost increase of $50 million.
