Conversion of the Defense Communications System from Analog to Digital Form.

Abstract

Given that the Defense Communications System (DCS) plans to convert from analog to digital transmission, the paper examines that decision in an attempt to determine major problem areas and topics worthy of further study. The DCS history, organization, and structure are examined, and modulation theory and techniques are reviewed. Current development in advanced communications technology is examined, and the implications of these developments on the DCS conversion are examined and evaluated. Anticipated major problem areas are deduced, and areas that require further investigation are enumerated. (author)
