Synthesis and Characterization of Metallo-organic Conducting Materials with Tetraazaannulenes.

Abstract

Compounds of macrocyclic ligand (4,11-dihydro-dibenzo b, i)(1,4,8,11)tetraaza(14)annulene, dB-TAA, have been prepared with Cu(+2), Ni(+2), Pd(+2), Pt(+2). The palladium complex crystallizes in three crystalline modifications, two of which are similar to the structurally characterized compound Ni(dB-TAA), while the third form packs as cofacial dimers in the solid state. Partial oxidation of Pd(dB-TAA) and Pt(dB-TAA) yields the mixed valence nonstoichiometric compounds Pd(dB-TAA)I2.0 (sigma = 0.4 ohm to the minus 1 power centimeter to the minus 1, delta E = 0.04-0.06 eV), Pt(dB-TAA)I1.35 (sigma = 0.12 ohm to the minus 1 power centimeter, to the minus 1 power, delta E = 0.06-0.12 eV), and Pt(dB-TAA)I1.50 (sigma = 0.03 ohm to the minus 1 power centimeter to the minus 1 power.
