Hole Burning Filter Cryogenic Cooling Feasibility Study.

Abstract

The Hole Burning Filter Receiver is an attractive filter concept for utilization in a strategic laser communications system for submerged submarines. The feasibility of this approach depends upon the ability to maintain the filter at cryogenic (approximately 4 degrees K) temperatures. This final report submits an evaluation of a cryogenic cooling system for the hole burning filter including estimates of size, weight, and power. (Author)
