Combustion Products Evaluation from Hull Insulation Materials Coated with Fire Retardant Paints.

Abstract

Hull insulation materials coated with fire retardant paint(s) have been evaluated for use aboard the nuclear powered submarine. Test samples were evaluated in a combustion chamber under both thermal and fire stress conditions. Combustion products were identified by gas chromatography/mass spectrometry and quantitated by gas chromatography. Of the materials tested, the insulation Foam A coated with fire retardant paint O-9788, or in combination with primer coatings of paints A-207 or O-634, is recommended. (Author)
