Environmental Data Report, Subic Bay, Republic of the Philippines, January and February 1965.

Abstract

The U.S. Naval Oceanographic Office (NAVOCEANO) conducted a limited environmental survey in Subic Bay, Republic of the Philippines, in January and February 1965. The purpose of the survey was to measure oceanographic environmental parameters in support of NAVOCEANO's mine warfare program. Temperature and salinity measurements and bottom sediment samples were obtained at 10 stations. Two of these stations were time-series anchor stations with current measurements and ambient noise recordings. The influence of tidal currents are thought to be responsible for the fluctuation of higher density waters through the entrance channel to Subic Bay on either slope of predicted high water. Maximum current speed was 0.4 knot. Characteristically, flow direction at intermediate levels often differed from the flow of the surface and near-bottom depths. (Author)
