A Study to Determine the Evolution of Advances in Medical Technology Expected in the Next 25 Years and Possible Impacts on Coast Guard Operations and Support Programs. Appendix A. Medicine: The 20-Year Outlook.

Abstract

About one million people in the United States die each year from heart disease. While effective chemotherapy exists for many heart diseases the suddenness of heart attacks often precludes their use. Preventive therapy and better screening hold the best promise for reducing the death rate due to heart disease. Improved diagnostic procedures and technologies are rapidly being developed. Some of the new diagnostic technologies and procedures are discussed.
