A Molecular Identification Device for Individual Sub-Micron Aerosols: Feasibility Study.

Abstract

An experimental feasibility study to demonstrate the viability of a concept for determining the molecular constituency of stratospheric submicron particulates on an individual particle basis, is described. Recommendations for continuing the program as far as the demonstration milestone are presented. Included among these are: (1) a means of greatly simplifying the test apparatus set-up (thereby reducing the probability of interruption by critical component failure), and (2) specific investigations to develop engineering data for the design of a future field prototype device.
