A Transaction Workload Model and its Application to a Tactical C3 Distributed Database System

Abstract

This report gives a high level description of a tactical C(3) database and describes a mathematical model which derives the workload on that database as a function of user load. The model is for use in evaluation of alternatives at an early stage of system design. The model can be extended to provide data for file allocation, to derive message flow resulting from a particular file allocation, and to determine the time and magnitude of the peak load on the system. The report includes results of an initial investigation of the effects of mission levels and file allocation strategies on database activities, message traffic, and other performance factors, for a field- deployable tactical air control system.
