The Development of a New Type of Model Ice for Refrigerated Towing Basins (Mise au Point d'un Nouveau Type de Glace de Simulation pour Bassins de Remorquage Refrigeres),

Abstract

A research program was initiated at the National Research Council of Canada to look for a new type of model ice which would accurately represent sea ice in its mechanical properties over a wide range of scaling factors. The results of this program are outlined in this report. The findings indicate that ice doped with either carbamide (urea) or lithium chloride would be a good model representation for sea ice for tests scaled up to 40:1. (Author)
