A Comparison of Newton-Like Methods for the Transonic Small Disturbance Equation,

Abstract

We investigate the efficiency of Newton's method and two variants of Newton's method for the numerical solution of the small disturbance equation of non-lifting transonic flow past a parabolic airfoil. In particular, it is shown that the efficiency of Newton's method can be substantially improved with respect to both storage and computational time if the Jacobian matrix is suitably altered.
