Methodology for Evaluation of Obscuration

Abstract

Since 1976. improvements in the methodology for physical and optical characterization of airborne obscurants have come about at a remarkable pace, reflecting the urgent need for objective data. Prior to that time virtually all evaluations of obscurants and associated delivery systems, and of electro- optical systems in an obscuring environment, were of the go no-go type. By contrast, a vast body of information is now available, much of which is base on developments at, and tests performed by Dugway Proving Ground. The purpose of this report is to describe some of the most recent advances in methodology.
