A Study of the Collisional Dynamics for Collisions of UF6(-) with Atoms and Molecules.

Abstract

Absolute total cross sections for the collisional decomposition of the negative ion of uranium hexafluoride into its three lowest asymptotic channels in collisions with the rare gases were measured for collision energies ranging from below thresholds for decomposition up to a laboratory collision energy of 500eV. The experimental results were found to be consistent with the predictions of a two-step collision model where the unimolecular decomposition of the excited molecular negative ions is described with a statistical theory.
