Analysis of the Connectivity and Centralization of Regional Air Freight Networks.

Abstract

This thesis gives an economic description of the air freight industry and a literature review, the development and use of the model, and conclusions to be drawn from the experiments conducted. The economics section describes the components of the air freight industry, the resources it uses, and the needs it satisfies. To optimize such a system has implications for each of these topics, and these are discussed also. The literature review covers some of the work done in each of the major areas of this thesis: economic analysis of air freight, simulation models of air cargo terminals, and math programming models of air networks. Chapter III describes the hypothetical network we are concerned with, and presents an overview of how the various model segments blend together to describe the network. Chapter IV describes the results of these experiments and attempts to draw general conclusions which relate the network characteristics to the ultimate optimal flow.
