Further Speckle Interferometric Studies of alpha Orionis

Abstract

Speckle interferometry was conducted on alpha Orionis (Betelgeuse) to check and extend the observations of Lynds, Worden, and Harvey (1976. Digital reduction of the data indicated the diameter had not changed significantly from the value derived in the previous study. In addition it was found that alpha Ori is very highly limb darkened. No significant surface structure was revealed. All other results of the Lynds et al. study are confirmed.
