CORCOM 85: An Innovative, Realistic Corps Communications Concept for the 1985 Army.

Abstract

A triad of tactical communications systems (conventional terrestrial communications, communications using satellite relays, and a tactical information distribution system (TIDS) should be the main elements of the future Army tactical communications capability. This is an alternative to the current trend in Army communications development. TIDS offers several new communications capabilities, and its employment could revolutionize battlefield communications. The use of TIDS by a division is outlined. Key issues relating to TIDS are identified and one, network connectivity, is discussed in detail. Finally, several actions needed to implement the triad concept are identified. (Author)
