Circularly Polarized Measurements of Radar Backscatter from Terrain and Snow-Covered Terrain.

Abstract

This report covers a measurement program to obtain circularly polarized radar backscatter coefficient data along with associated ground-truth information on snow-covered terrain. Snow-covered grass, asphalt and ice were observed at selected frequencies from 8 to 18 GHz for angles of incidence 0 deg (nadir) and 80 deg. Also included are some analyses of the effects of snowcover on the backscatter from terrain.
