Wideband Speech Multiple Rate Processor Study. Part I.

Abstract

This report presents the results of our investigations on the utility of multiple-rate processing (MRP) terminals in facilitating wideband/narrowband communications. In addition, the design and development of a real-time embedded MRP scheme which transmits speech at the data rates of 2.4, 8.0, 9.6. and 16.0 Kb/s is discussed. This report is written in two parts. Part I contains a description of non-embedded and embedded MRP schemes. Details treatments on two embedded algorithms, namely, the Linear Predictive Coding/Adaptive Predictive Coding with Adaptive Quantization (APC/APCQ); the Linear Predictive Coding/Split-Band Voice Coding (LPC/SBVC) are included.
