Review of the Strength and Capacity Data for Manual Material Handling Activities.

Abstract

This report describes the results of activities to reveiw the strength and capacity data for Manual Material Handling Activities (MMHA). These efforts primarily involved a reveiw of MMHA literature, preparation of an annotated bibliography and a summary of literature findings. To supplement these findings, experimental data were collected on the effect of the location of the center of gravity of the load and the effects of the presence or absence of couplings on the amount of weight lifted. The results from both of the research efforts and the literature review were used to formulate recommendations for the revision of Military Standard 1472B for MMHA. A brief summary of the results found for lift/lower, push/pull and carry activities is provided in the text. (Author)
