Studies of Transient Discharges.

Abstract

Progress in our program to study the basic physical processes responsible for laser-induced breakdown of spark gaps is reported. The major accomplishments during this period include the implementation of a gated computer-controlled, optical multichannel analyzer spectroscopy system, the design and construction of a suitable vacuum/pressure cell housing for the spark gap along with necessary support equipment, and the acquisition of preliminary experimental results on laser induced breakdown.
